HIGHLIGHTS
We are rolling along with our subtraction strategies and learning how it all works. Subtraction is a difficult concept for students to understand. One explanation for this is because children deduce differences from their knowledge of sums. Another explanation  is that we are "programmed" to accumulate rather than divest. A third explanation is that in order to subtract, kids either have to count backwards or start with the smaller number and count up, which is counter-intuitive to the concept of taking something away.

We continued with our Buffalo Jump work today. First, students reflected on how a buffalo jump was performed. Second, students are getting very close to coming up with a plan to perform a buffalo jump reenactment. This has been challenging as they have been asked to organize this as a group.
