Monday March 30th

Welcome Back!

Hello Joy Pod. We are back from spring break and ready to spring into this new season of learning. Today your parents will be receiving an email from their responsibility teacher with a very short survey that will help us move forward with your learning.

For this week we will be using this blog for your daily learning activities. Today there is story read by Mr. Lawson, who most of you should remember :) We will be using the FAB 4 (see poster below) for this activity. During or after the story can you or did you make any predictions, clarify, question or summarize). Please post your FAB 4 response in the comment section below! Make sure to include your first name in your comment! (It may be posted as unknown!)

Sharing...

Thank you to the students that have shared their work with us!!!

It has been exciting to see all of the ideas you have about what brings you JOY!

If you have not yet had a chance to share...
Here was the challenge that was posted before Spring Break:
Reading the book...
I'm Here By Peter Reynolds

Your Challenge is to try the following:
1. Make a paper airplane.
2. Write down all the things that bring JOY to you on the "paper" of the airplane!
3. Take a picture.
4. Upload the pic to your google drive OR insert it on a google slide.
5. Share it with your teachers!

See the EHS Youtube channel for more stories from EHS staff!

Please Note: You will be receiving correspondence from the school and your teachers tomorrow!

Happy First Day of Spring Everyone!

Not sure about you but I'd really love to see some signs of spring.  Still looks a lot like winter to me!

We are all so sorry we couldn't see you before the spring break so we recorded a read aloud for you.  If you are able to access your educbe Google account you could respond to us with some writing or a photograph over the break.  If you can't access your account, we will be sending emails on Monday, March 30 with account information.

In preparation for learning from home, you may want to start thinking about creating a personal learning/work space in your home.  Think about how you can personalize your space to make it special for you.  Again, if you can access your Google account, send some ideas and photos and share with your teachers.

Also, if you'd like to do some learning from home over the break, the CBE has provided some resources for families:

Enjoy a wonderful break with your families.  Stay safe, keep reading, keep active and be creative!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

It's such a beautiful day today so during our lunch hour, the teachers went out for a walk and placed rocks and shamrocks around the community to spread messages of "Joy", "Hope", "Harmony", "Peace" and "Kindness".  If you're out with your family see if you can spot any of our messages.

We miss you all!

 Joy Pod Families,

We just wanted to let you know that we are thinking of you all and will miss you at school.  Please note we will continue to use the blog to stay connected and hope that you will follow along.  More information will follow as to what that will look like. We encourage families to be attentive to CBE Messenger and both the CBE and the EHS school websites:

Here is a poem created jointly by a group of Joy Pod students.  We hope it spreads joy...

Happy Friday.  It sure is a cold one!

Thank you to all of the students who have participated in the Reading Across Canada challenge.  A big thank you also goes out to Mr. Kai and Mrs. Bowles for all of your work on this event.  You can continue to add to the reading log this weekend to see how far north we can get!

The Joy Pod continued working with non-fiction text.  We have identified and explored many non-fiction text features and are now practicing using 4 specific reading strategies (predicting, clarifying, summarizing and questioning) while reading non-fiction text specifically.

Our literacy learning intention for March will be posted on Powerschool by Monday.  Please review this with your child to see how they are progressing with non-fiction text.

This morning we also spent some time working in our math groups reviewing multiplication and division and putting our learning and understanding into action through repetition and application.

Have a wonderful weekend and stay warm!

Another Great Day To Celebrate Reading!

Today, as part of our Read-A-Thon activities, we joined the Peace Pod for buddy reading. We delighted in sharing our favourite books and reading aloud with some new friends. We also took some time to go down to the Hub and vote on our favourite Robert Munsch books. We'll find out what the results are tomorrow!

Making and Experimenting During Inquiry...

The students documented an experiment as we attempted to build a steam engine. We wrote our theory of how a steam engine works and we proposed our hypothesis of what we thought the outcome of the experiment might be!

In the other group, students began building their “How might we move the grain piles into railway box cars?” prototypes in the Makerspace based on the design templates groups have created last week and earlier this week.

This afternoon our Grade 4’s worked on their French, while our Grade 3’s focused on their Free Writing! Finally, students completed their Division Problem slides and 7x7 multiplication flashcards.
